A long, long time ago I was in a meeting where it was pointed out that, while you couldn't get a kidney transplant at Quincy City Hospital, that didn't explain why having your gallbladder out at MGH cost 3X what it cost in Quincy (8 miles apart).
Well, Quincy City Hospital is long gone, a ruin, and MGH is going strong.
But healthcare economists still can't solve the question of that very expensive gallbladder operation at MGH.
